So after feverish rehearsals, to much acclaim, the Westchester Grand Troupe returned to the stage for their blockbuster encore of Ram-Leela. There were a few extra bells and whistles, with a sound system extraordinaire (thanks Navjot!) and some vivid scenes of the royal palace and the deep forest (courtesy of Shobhita and Sarvesh).
And our all star cast out-did themselves. We had Neil and Samik appropriately playing the lauded Rama-Lakshmana fraternal partnership. Nikita speaking her mind as Sita. And Adithya, Eshan and Sneha depicting the youthful exploits of the trio. Then Pranav, first all-powerful then pensive and finally desolate as Dasharatha. A wonderful contretemps between Shobhita and Ishita in that power scene where Manthara shapes the whole destiny of the Ramayana. Natasha and Sanjana resplendent and regal as Kausalya and Sumithra. Sanjana in a versatile triple-act as Bharata, Marichi and Sage Vashista, and Kashvi equally ominscient as the lordly Sage Vishwamitra. Then we had Sarvesh's epic appearance (replete with his 10 heads) as a fiendisly cackling Ravana. And how can we forget Vinny's portrayal of Sugriva and Krishna's stage-filling performance as the titanic Hanuman. All of this woven together by the potent narratives of Anika and Nisha. Wow, were we fortunate to be in the presence of such precocious talents!
